Just what the doctor ordered - Blue skies and a ferry ride

(Warning: long post ahead :)

Well here I am back, public again, hoping it was all just spam.  I really do enjoy connecting with people through blogging.  I've taken a little blogging break though due to a minor surgery I had last Thursday.  Everything's fine, just a little something to help those times of the month not be so painful :)  Hopefully it works!  The fam, Mr. Incredible, and the kids were to great to me and I enjoyed lots of meals in bed.

Nice little gestures like this post here.

Actually it was fun for them the first couple of days, but then it started to get old.  I also realized I definitely need a makeover in our bedroom.  You lay in bed long enough and start to really not like it.  Don't take me wrong, I love to sleep and would a lot more if I could, but enough was enough.

So yesterday we had an opportunity to get out and actually do something very different.  It all started with my addiction to Craigslist and looking for new chairs for our kitchen.  Well all the weeks of looking led me to a beautiful buffet that I knew when I saw it would look so great in our dining room.  (I know, different room, and not the furniture I set out looking for, but still a smokin hot deal!)  The lady lived in Kingston though, across the water, so I decided to pull Maddie out of school early, hop on a ferry and meet my sister-in-law Denise, who just happens to live over there. I loved the look of the buffet when I saw it and all the wheels starting spinning in my head with ideas of how to fix it up and repaint it.  More on that later.

So after getting it loaded in our car (amazing it even fit!), we went to a fun place called "The Grub Hub" near the ferry dock for lunch and then hopped back on the ferry again.

Now on to the fun pictures I took.  Maddie was such an enjoyable companion!  She thoroughly loved going on the ferry, since we hadn't done it for awhile, and was so excited to see Aunt Denise.  It's amazing the difference it makes when you break up your mundane routine and go do something completely spur of the moment which is what this was.  I had so many moments traveling in the car with her, which were pure "just enjoying being with your child" moments.  It was just fun!

She wanted to go out on the front bow, but realized it was way too windy there!

So we went back inside and I had to take lots more pictures.
I'm grateful Maddie obliged.

The clouds in the sky were absolutely gorgeous yesterday!!  Just the rejuvenation I needed!
(most of these were taken inside the ferry through the window, thus turning out a bit gray)

Maddie even insisted on taking one, or a few, of me and I'm only including it to be fair. (I don't like pictures of myself very often)
(and no, that isn't a patch of grey showing up in my hair in the front, but too much blond put there by the new hairdresser I went to.  Ergg!  I went back to have it fixed today!)

Couldn't get enough of the beautiful clouds!
What a fun day!

Now I'm sure you want to see the buffet. That's the main reason why we went, right?  It's antique, vintage French provincial, which is a style I really want to incorporate more in our living and dining rooms, if I can convince Mr. Incredible that it really will work.  I love mixing antique items full of character with newer furniture, and the dining room is the one room where I really can do it.  I've succumbed my passion for the shabby chic, vintage look in all the other areas of our house, to keep it in balance - (it's too girly and fancy I'm told by the boys in our home).

Isn't it beautiful?  I think so anyway!  It has so much character.

(Mr. Incredible, needless to say, isn't too thrilled and thinks it came from someone's grandmas house, which it did.)  But it reminds me of something my grandma, affectionately known as Nana, would have had.  She had incredible taste in using antiques and beautiful art from around the world.  I know I get this passion from her.  More of that in a later post as well.

I love all the beautiful hardware, the curves on the drawers and the scalloped edge along the bottom.  Can you imagine what I want to do with it? (and hopefully not ruin it!)  Btw, we just set it here between the living and dining rooms to get it out of the garage.  This is not the final place.  I had to put something on the top for now, because it looked so plain without it.  Here's what I have in mind to do with Heirloom White paint:

(I've tried to remember where I snagged most of these inspiration pics, but can't remember all of them.)

Look at the piece showing in the reflection of the mirror. That's exactly what I'm thinking.  What do ya think?

Just like this but with Heirloom White.
