Tyler had an event at school a few weeks ago called "Meet the Author" where they were required to write about an event in their life that has influenced them and then share it with the other 5th graders and their parents. He wrote his story and then made this poster to go with it, along with a small description about himself as the author. It is so precious, I have to share it. He decided to write the story about how his sister, Madeline came into our family:
"There she was. My new sister dressed in a beautiful white dress and bow. Four years ago my family and I flew to New Orleans to get my new adopted sister. We were all excited! I had wrapped a special present for my new sister. The travel was hard. We still had fun.
The journey was long and hard. First, we had to wake up at 5:00 a.m. to catch an early plane. When we finally got there, I was able to meet my new sister. Since my sister Madeline was a newborn, she was tired, so she couldn’t see what the present was. I gave her a teddy bear that my Nana gave me when I was little. My Nana had given me two bears, and I thought my sister would enjoy one of them, the white one!
The journey home was not an easy one. It was Christmas Eve and we really wanted to be home with her for Christmas. When we got to the airport, they said they didn’t have room for us on the plane. My dad explained our situation and they made room for us on the plane. Finally we got home around 11:30 p.m. Christmas Eve!
Four years after this, I still love my sister. Even though she sometimes bothers me, I help her with what she needs. She still loves her bear today. I am very grateful for my little sister that we brought home as an early Christmas present. " -- Tyler LaPerle
It just touches my heart to hear this story from Tyler's point of view now four years later!
Here's some more pictures to illustrate his story:
This is us at the airport with an empty carseat, going to pick up Maddie.
Holding her for the first time! Tyler (7) at the time looks so cute missing his front teeth!
