I have a confession... I tend to obsess over things and when I get an idea in my mind, there's not much stopping it. Well, I've been spending a lot of time playing around with photography and trying to understand my DSLR camera better by taking a few classes. I also, have been studying other's work and figuring out what I like, why I like it and how to create it. I admit, I sometimes just drool over the gorgeous locations that photographers take their children or clients to. Well as we were driving in Marysville, a neighboring community, a few weeks ago, we drove past the Lavendar Hills Farm, and I remembered the fun time Maddie and I had there a couple of years ago. See that post here.
This was the photo shoot opportunity I've been setting up in my mind for weeks, and it almost didn't happen! There were so many mishaps that happened during the process, that it was like it wasn't meant to be, but I was determined. None of the mishaps had anything to do with Maddie, though! She was a very willing participant.
I tried to help her pick out something cute that would create the look I had in mind, (luckily she had this cute dress we had gotten at Target a few weeks ago). The jacket was all her idea -- I was impressed. Everything was right that day for a photo shoot. Tyler was away at scout camp, and that day I knew it would be a little cloudy in the morning, creating a better setup to take pictures without harsh shadows. So we drove over and she was so excited to be able to cut lavendar all by herself. I had all these shots in mind that I wanted to take, and I told her that if she was was really cooperative and would indulge mom in taking all these pictures, we would be able to enjoy some icecream when it was all over -- lemon lavendar icecream! She was on board!!
She wanted to start cutting lavendar right away, so we started with those pictures. After taking just a few, around 35 (which really isn't that many when you're just snapping away), you'll never guess what happened... Yep, the two bars I had on the camera battery just weren't enough, and before I knew it, it was down to one and the battery died! Of course I wasn't prepared like most photographers should be with an extra battery, so we were done with pictures. Well, we still had a fun time walking around and then enjoying icecream because she was SO cooperative!
But you know me... that wasn't enough so I convinced her we needed to go back again later, which ended up being the next morning. Luckily weather conditions were the same, so we headed over again. This time, I convinced her that it would be fun to wear a hat like we were playing dress-up. She was all for it!
We had a great time, cutting lavendar again, and getting all those great shots that I had imagined, with a fully charged battery. Everything was great, until we went back to the car to get my purse to pay for the lavendar, which I had hidden there. Yep, you guessed it... I had left the keys in my purse and then locked the car. Brilliant!!! In my defense, it was Jeff's car we had that day because he took our other car, (which has keyless entry with a code), up to scout camp to pick up Tyler. So yeah, I locked the doors without even giving a second thought to it! Darn, we couldn't even pay for the lavendar! Luckily we got all the cute pics I wanted! Lucky also, that Jeff and Tyler were almost home, so they turned around and came with extra keys to bail us out!! I know he was thinking what is wrong with his wife, and shaking his head. Well, the owners felt bad for Maddie and I while we were waiting so they gave us free icecream. To top it off, when I finally got my purse out of the car, we got some for Jeff and Tyler too!
Well that's the Lavendar Farm saga and the background story behind all these pics! Two days worth, two different cars, two large bunches of lavendar, lots of icecream and an incredible amount of pictures!! Was it worth it??? Yes!!
